Don't worry. There are several grass species that can grow well in sandy soil. These include fescue, zoysia, Bermuda grass, bentgrass, and bahiagrass. The benefit to these species is the deep root systems they can develop. This allows them to get moisture from the deeper soils as the top of the sandy soil drains.

The easiest and cheapest way to cool your pool is to add a swimming pool water feature, such as a swimming pool fountain or aerator. There are many types available which can connect to your pool's return line. By spraying the water into the air some of it will evaporate, drawing heat out of the rest of the water and thereby cooling it down.

A person in a pool supply store told me that I probably disturbed calcium buildup in the sand and this is what I now observe on the bottom of the pool. There is no grit to this sediment so it is not sand. If it was gritty that would indicate broken laterals. I called to inquire about replacing the PVC valves and decided to hold off on that for now.

Phosphorus, or phosphate, can enter the pool by leaching out of leaves or organic debris in the pool or drifting there from fertilizer sprayed near or around your pool. Because algae feed on phosphates, algae blooms due to phosphorus can become overwhelming in the summer months when the water temperature exceeds 78-82° F.

This is especially likely if it is very warm outside, since algae blooms more rapidly in warmer temperatures. It is even more common, however, for there to have been an ongoing, undetected chemical imbalance in your pool water that enabled algae to grow. As a rule of thumb, the deeper the shade of green, the more algae has bloomed.
