Marble, formed by the metamorphism of limestone, is commonly used in the construction industry and sculpting. The mineral in marble is either calcite [CaCO[subscript 3]] or dolomite [CaMg(CO[subscript 3])[subscript 2]] or sometimes both. The pure white Carrara marble from Italy was made a name by Michelangelo, the famous sculptor of the 16th century.

MINING GREECE MARBLE Marble is a rock that consists of calcite (CaCO3), or of the combination of calcite minerals (CaCO3) and dolomite ( (Ca,Mg) (CO3)2) and has been created by the metamorphism of limestones, that is of carbonate sedimentary rocks. The word's origin is the ancient Greek work "marmaros", which means "shiny stone".

Dolomite is a harder-than-average material and is not as fragile as marble. On the Mohs hardness scale, dolomite rates at 3.5 - 4, superior to marble's Mohs rating. A higher hardness rating makes it a durable and strong countertop over time, capable of supporting various uses while being resistant to wear and tear.

Nov 29, 2020 - What is Marble? Marble is a metamorphic rock which is non foliated and is formed when limestone is subjected to heat and pressure where calcite recrystallises to form a rock that is a mass of interlocking calcite crystals. In marble not all of the rock is formed of calcite other minerals can also be present such as clay minerals, micas, quartz, pyrite, iron oxides and graphite.

Marble Marble is a metamorphic rock consisting predominantly of calcite or dolomite. It is a metamorphosed carbonate rock ( limestone or dolomite rock ). Marble is a sparkling and typically granoblastic rock. Granoblastic rocks have uniformly sized, equidimensional, anhedral grains produced by recrystallization in a solid state (metamorphism).
