Abstract High-energy ball milling (HEBM) was applied for the synthesis of spinel Li4Ti5O12 and the influence of milling time was investigated systematically. With the increase of ball-milling time, the average particle size of the as-synthesized Li4Ti5O12 powder decreased from ~ 900 nm to ~ 150 nm, while the particle morphology changed little.

An increase in milling time leads to a small expansion of the a and c lattice parameters of Sn, Sb, and SnSb, respectively. For all samples, the increase by ball milling over 6 h is in the range of about 0.2-0.7% in the a direction and 0.4%-0.6% in the c direction, see Figure S1, Supporting Information.

Barium titanate (BaTiO 3 or BT) powder was synthesized from BaCO 3 -TiO 2 reaction at high temperature. This powder was then used to produce BT nanocrystalline powders using high-energy ball milling under different milling conditions. All the milled powders were examined by XRD and TEM. The particle sizes calculated by the Sherrer formula from the XRD patterns agree with the results of TEM images.
